Homework Due 03/27/08

Photoshop Drawing - Exaggeration

Using basic brush, eraser and paint bucket tools, mixed with transparency and color choices, create an 8x10" digital drawing at 300ppi. Use at least five different layers to construct your drawing, and let objects/forms overlap from layer to layer. You can use photographs that you take or sketches as references, but you cannot trace them as you did in Illustrator. Save as a Photoshop Document (.psd).

I want you to illustrate something that you've exaggerated. While I know that you are (of course) strictly tellers of truth, I'd like you to consider a point in your life, or a single event where the exageration of a simple truth ended up being significant. Consider the use of visual exaggeration as a way to emphasize the aspect of that moment that mattered. Try to avoid cliched imagery - long noses for lies and things like that.

Due next class (03/27/08)

**Also next class bring an object to scan, can be 2D or 3D, just nothing that can scratch up glass.

Homework: Due 03/20/08

Text in Illustrator: Create an image combining text with an image/s (i.e. a drawing, a photograph, trace an image or draw your own in Illustrator). Try to push the creativity of text. Think about what the text is about to choose an appropriate font (or make your own font) and image to correspond with it. The text can be the image (draw a path and then type on a path), the text doesn't have to legible, it can be distorted, blurred, skewed, etc. to give an overall feel to what the text or concept is about.
Use the Illustrator Help links I've picked out below to help you along if you get stuck.
And look at some of the "Art Sites" to your right for some inspiration or look up your favorite albums, movie posters, artists books, etc. to study how they combined text with image (Barbara Kruger is a good one).

As always, make sure you save an Illustrator file (.ai) version of this work and a jpeg one to go on your blog. Please post on your blog before next class so we can critique your work.

**If you haven't already transfered all your files onto the "teacher's" computer, please make sure you bring them in next class on an external drive to do so.

Happy Spring Break!
